Gloucester Pie Recipe

Way back at the end of July I had some visitors (my flat is pretty much "Hotel De Double Dom")
I wanted to make a few meals cheaply and easily, so I found my old (OLD) dairy book of home cookery by Sonia Allison, it's not my mothers its mine!

I found this recipe in the vegetarian dishes section, it's basically a savoury bread n butter pudding, it went down a storm and not a morsel was left in the dish! When I went googling for this recipe I could only find a "westcountry meat pie", so other than the cheese used I'm not sure where this originally  came from so here it is, do get in touch if you made one yourself

Gloucester Pie  (From the Dairy Book of Home Cookery 1978 Edition)
8 Slices of Bread (Day old for preference)
Butter
100g Double Gloucester Cheese
250g Skinned Tomatoes (I didn't! just used plain)
150 ml Milk
1 Standard egg
1 Level teaspoon made mustard
1/4 Level teaspoon salt
Shake of pepper
Extra 25g butter

1. Cut the crusts from the bread and butter
2. Make sandwiches with the cheese and tomato slices (I grated the cheese!)
3. Cut each sandwich into four triangles arrange in a buttered shallow heatproof dish
4. Beat milk & egg together with the mustard, salt and pepper to taste
5. Pour into the dish over the sandwiches
6. Leave to stand for about half an hour or until the bread has soaked up all the liquid, dot the extra bits of butter on top
7. Bake just above the center of a moderately hot oven (190c/375f or Gas mark 5 adjust for fan ovens like myself I turned it down to 180) for 25 to 30 minutes (or until top is golden)
8. Serve (the book says with a green vegetable or salad but we just had peas)

Our delicious Gloucester Pie

Till next time

Dyslexic Dom

This is my post about dyslexia, I was 27 when I found out I was dyslexic
All my life up to that point I thought I was stupid and is not very bright, always told I "could do better" or "must try harder".

After I found out I was dyslexic I spent a year getting over the fact it wasn't discovered earlier,
I was very grumpy and annoyed and I felt I'd wasted my time getting an education but in time I got over that and moved on, since then i've written a dissertation for my uni course (and passed!!) also applied for mastermind (got an audition but not on the show and I'm thrilled I got that far!) taken part in many quizzes local and otherwise coming within the top three each time give or take.

I've struggled with trying to start a blog because of my dyslexia, worried I'll be judged on my spelling and grammar because people get so angry when others get there, their and they're muddled up to me it's a very small and petty thing to get wound up over but to others you are an "idiot" if you don't understand it, I know I'm not an idiot it just doesn't go in the brain and stay and I doubt it ever will but "I must try harder" (Re - never going to happen)

Discovering I was dyslexic really explained why I was scatty, not good with my timekeeping and really badly organised now I know the cause I can tackle them better without worry that "it's me being stupid" it's not it's how my brain is wired it's such a lovely feeling to know it's "just how I am".

I'm hoping to continue to blog, maybe even vlog (if my editing skills get better because I'm such an entertainer!)  but for now a couple of posts week, we can do this!

Thank you for reading my post, please do comment or tweet me (@maysiebug) if you wish to discuss this further with me
I would like to thank team blogtacular and Crafts from the Cwtch (Sarah Knight) for the wee push for me to get this blog out there and written in the first place!

Cheers

Miss Double Dom

My handwriting has always been "terrible" but that was "my fault" now I know otherwise
Plus yay! Dominic Howard gave this dyslexic a drumstick!

My home made stew

First things first I'm not a veggie, I eat meat but I cook and bake Vegan/veggie
so here is my veggie stew that I made for the first time this year and obviously not the last yesterday.

Firstly I make sure I've got a tin of butter beans, a packet of pearl barley vegetable stock (whatever you fancy!) and of course suet for my dumplings!

but first the veg!

as you can see i got a bargain in M&S this in total cost me £1.01p exactly I've had many arguments about the cost of M&S food I go in figure out what I need and get it and most of it was cheaper than other supermarkets!

I put the veg in my slow cooker and the the potatoes (after washing them) I then put in the tinned butter beans (after rinsing them) followed by the pearl barley (a couple of handfuls not too much!) then made the stock cube up to the packets instructions left it for about six hours added a little extra water to make sure it didn't dry out!

then I made (for the first time!) Vegan dumplings with the suet (it was vegetable!) they nearly went wrong when I added too much water but i followed the instructions on the packet (flour, suet, water and salt!) but i saved the day with more flour! so when I finished  I realised that my stew was completely vegan! thats a great thing because I can have my friends around for tea! unfortunately I don;t have much of my stew left but its a handy thing to make this time of year that I wanted to share!

till next time lovelies!

June Recap - Look Ma' I'm blogging

Hello all out there, thought I would recap my month of "Crazy June" because things went crazy for me in June it ALL went on so lets begin

1. Exeter Crafts Birthday

We made sheep (see next point), we had cake because what is a birthday without cake?
oh and I said we would make sheep!
we have a few left over made by Sarah so we may keep some for future events!

2. Muse At Download & Drones
I only went for the day, it was incredible and a lot of fun hanging around with my Muse pals for a whole day some I hadn't seen for two years (too long!) we laughed so much and had a ball waiting for Muse, It's the best set list I've ever seen them play and sure down as one of my favourite shows i've ever seen
Muse's album "Drones" came out the Monday of this week
(the same week as the craft evening above slightly Muse related because of the sheep, Matt Bellamy has sheep so we made some for him!)

admittedly I pre-orderd it and got the super edition, so got the songs early but not the end of the album I adore it best album I've heard by them and Defector is my favourite song by them but I won't waffle on Download was incredible and the album is even better so

3. Jurassic World

I'm a wuss after having my epilepsy as a child and having anything set it off (being freaked out is one) going to see this film was HUGE for me of course I went because of Chris Pratt I ADORE Mr Pratt my pal Rox joined me for this to hold my hand so to say but I laughed all the way though the film haha! but WORTH IT!

4. Kaiser Chiefs in Bristol

A fabulous night in bristol with my Facebook pal Dawn and her husband whom I hadn't met before and we had a ball Peanut even came down the front to start "modern way" I hadn't seen that in a while! so got a litttttle bit excited and also it was the *meaning of life* it was Kaiser Chief gig number 42 I know the question "how many Kaiser Chief gigs have you gone to" = 42 thats the meaning of life

5. Friends, Visitors and other

Look ma I'm a real blogger now, seemed to be the accessory for the month
new lights for my wee flat and they are now up in my flat!
Lynda, Me, Mr Photobomber and Helen at Download yes we were a tad Excited ahem

After download I visited Michelle my friend whom I hadn't seen since 2008 (bad, BAD me) so as it wasn't going to cost much to get to her I went to see her and the amazing Dave the cat (he's on instagram as *Miaowdave* give him a follow he's fab!

and in the middle of the month my Aunty Jane came to visit we she's holding my Muse poster up there lol and we visited Teignmouth after trolling the Exeter Charity shops and me spending a fortune!

so that was my June it was a mish mash and jam packed! but also a lot of fun and I think certainly the best month of the year so far! I think muse helped teehee, so have a selfie to sum up the crazy month it's made me happy

take care and see you soon love from

Miss Double Dom hits back

Good day to you out there in blog land
I'm back yes it's Miss Double Dom (nothing to do with rude things either!) it's been a fair while yes, but life happened jobs started, friendships grew and I've seen my friends suffer horrible loss but I'm back to documenting it and my crafty bits around with my thoughts on my day to day things (and this is ANYTHING)
firstly lets start with gigs I've gone to and the important one.

(Moriaty with added Chris Wolstenholme - Exeter Great Hall 20th March 2015)

It was a long emotional day seeing Muse in Exeter I cannot believe they came here, I cannot believe I didn't have to book a place to stay it feels like a dream did Muse really play here?
I got confused with where I had to go but I made a barrier (I hate being in a middle) I didn't feel that anxious and I was Chris side as you can see
the rare songs for me weren't that rare so I lost out on seeing songs I haven't, only agitated (not whinging, just saying I've gotten slack for that but whatever! I'm lucky I've seen them and I know it)
but by the last song (one of my favourites Reapers) I was a blubbering mess and I wanted to go home and curl up into a ball and cry, but typical crazy Muse fan style I would do it all again tomorrow!

In the past year I've seen The Kaiser Chiefs (x3) and I'm seeing them again in about three weeks! Example (x2) he kept me going over the past 18 months much like Calvin Harris does with his music! also Basement Jaxx (FINALLY! WAITED 10 YEARS!), Paloma Faith, Status Quo with Chas and Dave and Nik Kershaw I cannot think of any more thats only a couple compared to normal.

Work wise, I've started another job that I love, but being a good girl I won't say who or anything but I'm happy there as much as getting used to two jobs is getting to me, I'm still here and upright!

Craft wise, look whats still going

Exeter Crafts - May 2015

It turns a year old TODAY! (well my first one was the 3rd but it's the birthday party tonight!) I'm so excited we are making sheep (pom pons, paper, felt ETC ALL THE SHEEP!) because I'm silly like that and enjoy doing silly makey type things.

I've also visited Birmingham for Allison Sadler's amazing Make It Sewcial meet up it was an incredible and inspiring day here's a few pics taken that day some taken on my phone by Kat M from blogtatular and one from Allison!

our venue the impact hub in Birmingham, Exeter YOU NEED ONE!

I made this and wear it every day,
I believe everyone has a craft they can do
so DO IT!

it was meant to be think big
but there was no big so it was this or craft so I added magic!

I think I've waffled on for long enough, I've promised myself to type more regardless, I've been told to just do it and thats exactly what I did with that craft evening of mine and now look at it a year old today, just go for it nothing is a failure if you learn from it.

stay awesome, with love from

Ok I didn't really try - UPDATE!

Hello there blogland!

I got so caught up with my crafty evenings/work/life I got lost and didn't exactly have time to think what to write about or how, so this is my huge update on what has been going on in my Double Dom world.

  • Craft evenings - These started in October  last year my first post here included my first one mentioned I got asked to make them fortnightly and they went on from there, friends still turn up and join me every now and then for tea and "makes", but this led onto something greater "Exeter Crafts" this is a monthly event held at The Oddfellows pub in Exeter the first Tuesday of the month (the next one being 1st july from 7pm), we tend to have a theme and make something from/for that theme, but I'm ok with people bringing their own crafts to do with us, this is only the start we have big plans!

  • South West Blog Social  - what a lovely day it was I've got problems when it comes to me going out on my own but I'm fighting them and i'm so glad I did! it was packed day about blogging in general how to use it better etc filled with food, beauty and mummy bloggers and so much more was very lovely to meet so many different bloggers as well, I went along because I went to a blogging meeting the monday previous, it's getting me into this, incredibly glad I am too!

  • I've started a blog with one of my best friends who moved away this spring, it's in the process of being started ideas and the like so watch this space! we're on the way with our crafty skillz inspirational people and so much more!

  • Exeter Pride - I closed a road for them! had a bit of a meltdown in doing so BUT no one died and thats the important part! I also sang in "Spectrum" the local LGBT (& Friends) choir it's every tuesday and I love going it's a bit of a jammed day for me (charity work in the morning followed by work work!) but it's worth it! it was a mental day but I'm gald I did my little bit it all helped a great day for the city I live in.

Thats all I can think of at this present moment, more bloggyness to come from me I'm slowly getting more organised with life, as said before my english/grammar isn't very good I tend to write how I talk so apologies for that.

bai bai for now

First postings and Craft evenings

Hello and Welcome to Double Dom's Crafting blog!

I've tried blogging before and I'm not that great in keeping up with posts but this time i'm determined to at least try some points you must know before I start

1. I'm USELESS at English and grammar (being Dyslexic doesn't help me here) in time I'll find a proof reader! (it's on the to do list so bare with me)

2. I'm a bit scatty so I don't post as frequently as others, but I'm working on getting organised! any tips would be appreciated!

ANYWAY HELLO THIS IS MY NEW BLOG!

*~Fanfare~*

I'm Dominique (or May/Maysie depending on what you want to call me!)
A 30 something who makes things in Devon with the help of my Mother in Cornwall (she knits for cornwall and possibly the UK!)
My Favourite things to make are, Button Jewellery and anything Crocheted!
Together we made Double Dom Does (yet to fully start the store, thanks to rubbish lighting for photos and bad timing organisation on my part BUT it's coming!)
and I started my craft evenings off starting this

Craft evenings
granted I've only had one of them, and as far as i'm concerned it was a success! two books I've read over the past few months gave me the boost to do this by myself one was
Jazz Domino Holly's - Queen Of Crafts for the section on gatherings (just blummin' do it!)
and Craft In edited by Kathleen Mccafferty the "box" is full of mini books with projects for crafty gatherings (making your own hula hoop! YAY!)

Those books gave me ideas just to have friends around have a cup of tea and make "all the things" My first gathering was the first Friday in October, possibly moving them to Wednesdays if thats easier for friends to come (and it was friends only but can and will open to others if they wish to join!)

What the future holds with this little project of mine who knows, but I'm glad I've made my first steps in trying to do something crafty I enjoy, just got to keep up the momentum!

Would you hold you own craft night?
